A Brief Look at Matt Lauer's Real-Estate Portfolio

Gere had initially asked $65 million for the offering, but ultimately dropped the price to attract a buyer, the New York Post reported. "I think it would be surprising if someone said they didn't see that," an uncomfortable Curry said. She added, "I would be surprised if many women did not understand that there was a climate of verbal harassment that existed."

"I can tell you that I am not surprised by the allegations," Curry told the "CBS This Morning" hosts on Wednesday morning regarding the harassment and assault claims against Lauer. In early December, it was reported that Lauer had ditched his NYC digs and wasspending time in the Hamptons with his wife. And while the former anchor was snapped in Sag Harbor wearing his wedding band, Roque was captured without hers. In an interview withThe Daily Mail, Roque’s father told the publication that his daughter had no intention of getting back together with Lauer. Former "Today" host Matt Lauer, who was booted by NBC at the end of 2017 following sexual assault allegations, has now been kicked out of his home in the Hamptons by his wife, according to the New York Post. Lauer stepped in for Scott Simon, Mike Schneider and Jack Ford as the co-host of Weekend Today, and for Ann Curry as anchor of the former NBC News program NBC News at Sunrise from 1992 to 1997.

Mr. Lauer could not be immediately reached for comment, while Ms. Breitenbach did not respond to a request for comment in time for publication. Reps for Lauer did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment about this property. Gere initially asked for $65 million, but ultimately dropped the price to attract a buyer.

Mr. Lauer and his ex-wife, model Annette Roque, bought the property in 2016 from actor Richard Gere for $36.5 million, property records show. Roque, 54, will keep Bright Side Farm, their 47 ½-acre horse farm in nearby Water Mill, which they bought for $3.5 million in 2012. Interior highlights include a screened-in porch spanning the entire length of the house, numerous entertaining areas, including the formal living and dining room and multiple fireplaces throughout. The main house, known as Strongheart Manor, was originally built in 1902 and has been renovated and restored with the best technology, according to the listing. Lauer, 63, and his wife at the time, Annette Roque, had purchased the home, located five minutes from the upscale Sag Harbor community, from Richard Gere in 2016 for $36.5 million, property records show.

The seven-page report noted that "within two weeks" of Lauer's firing, the company received information about "three additional women" who'd been inappropriately approached by him dating back to 2000, 2001, and 2007, respectively. Lauer made a guest appearance as himself on a live episode of Will & Grace in early 2006. In Catch and Kill, Farrow reveals one of the alleged victims as Brooke Nevils, who says Lauer anally raped her in his hotel room while the two were in Sochi covering the 2014 Winter Olympics for NBC. Farrow also writes in his book that Nevils had additional sexual encounters with Lauer after the initial incident, but she characterized those encounters as "transactional", and consented only out of fear that Lauer had control over her career. On November 30, 2016, it was revealed that Lauer had signed a new contract up to 2018.

This "audition" period allowed him to join The Today Show full-time in January 1994 as news anchor, while still co-anchoring Today in New York and Live at Five. Lauer joined NBC in 1992, when he became co-anchor of the early weekday news show Today in New York on the network's New York flagship station WNBC. After a year, he also filled the role of Live at Five co-anchor with Sue Simmons, eventually taking the role permanently and giving up the morning shift by 1994; he was replaced on Today in New York by Maurice DuBois. Strongheart Manor, the nickname of the main home, was built in 1902 and has been brought up to date.

This segment sent Lauer to various locations around the world, from where he reported on the importance of each location. He broadcast from locations including Bhutan, Easter Island, the Panama Canal, Iran, Hong Kong, Croatia, and the Great Wall of China. In 2011, NBC News postponed the segment in consideration of the stagnant, unstable U.S. economy. Lauer has made several attempts to sell the 12-bedroom, 12-bathroom estate.

The property sits on 6.3 acres on the peninsula of North Haven, with views over Peconic Bay and Mashomack Preserve, 300 feet of direct bay frontage and a 240-foot deep water dock, according to the listing with Susan Breitenbach of the Corcoran Group. The property had been listed in June 2019 for $44.8 million, following the former anchor’s divorce from Annette Roque. But that price failed to attract a buyer. The waterfront abode came back on the market in the fall of 2019, with a slightly lowered asking price of $43.99 million. The 12-bedroom, 12-bath property, known as Strongheart Manor, features a 14,000-square-foot main house with two guesthouses and a basketball court on six acres. The sprawling grounds boast a 60-foot heated waterfront pool, rolling lawns and flowering gardens, specimen trees, a fireplace pavilion, a gym, and a basketball court. The impressive 6.3-acre property features views of Peconic Bay and the Mashomack Preserve, 300 feet of bay frontage, a 240-foot-long deep-water dock, a sandy beach, a pond with a bridge, an island-inspired teahouse, and two guest cottages.

On January 6, 2017, Lauer celebrated his 20th anniversary on The Today Show with a look back at some of his most memorable moments on the show. During the 2014 Winter Olympics, Lauer replaced prime-time host Bob Costas from February 11–14, after Costas suffered a major eye infection. Lauer co-hosted the opening ceremonies of several Olympic Games, carrying on what his former co-host Katie Couric had done since the 2000 Summer Olympics. He co-hosted the opening ceremonies of the 2008 Summer Olympics, the 2010 Winter Olympics, the 2012 Summer Olympics, the 2014 Winter Olympics and the 2016 Summer Olympics. His commentary on the 2012 opening ceremonies, along with that of co-hosts Meredith Vieira and Bob Costas, came under fierce criticism, being described as "ignorant" and "banal".

From 2009 to 2016 he owned a different property in the Hamptons that many believed he was spending his time at when he was not in New York City. Then, in June 2016, Lauer purchased another spare property in the Hamptons for $3.6 million,The Post reportedat the time. Richard Gere, the owner before Lauer, asked $65 million when he decided to sell the place.

Two weeks after Lauer's firing, Addie Zinone, a former Today production assistant, made an additional accusation, saying that she had a consensual sexual relationship with Lauer in June 2000. Zinone claimed that the relationship was an "abuse of power" on Lauer's part because Zinone said that she felt that turning down Lauer's advances would have hurt her career. In November 2015, Lauer hosted an interview with Charlie Sheen, during which Sheen revealed that he was HIV-positive. It has been widely reported that Lauer had influenced co-anchor Ann Curry's departure from The Today Show, executed by its executive producer Jim Bell under the name called "Operation Bambi."

As the Today Show news anchor, he also substituted for Bryant Gumbel on the Today Show before being named the official co-anchor on January 6, 1997, after Gumbel stepped down. On top of Lauer's duties on The Today Show, he also hosted programming on Discovery Channel and MSNBC. The disgraced former “Today” show host has attempted to unload his home in North Haven on and off for years. He has now put it back on the market with a price of $44 million, according to the New York Post. Further to that, in 2006, Roque filed for divorce from Lauer but, strangely, there was never any follow-through on the process. Instead, Lauer reportedly offered her $5 million as an incentive to stay in the marriage.
